An introduction.

Good Day All,

My name is Rick Newton and I have been fishing since a child. In the late 70's through the early 80's, I fished the Channel Islands on the Estrella out of CISCO landing for Calico bass and the occasional yellowtail as well as the largemouth bass in the Casitas reservoir. In 1985, I married my highschool sweetheart and moved to Ontario, Canada.

In Canada, I started fishing the local rivers and lakes for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, musky, and salmon. I started fishing bass tournaments in 1987 and by the time my wife and I decided to move back to southern California, I had earned over three dozen top ten finishes, including 14 wins.

These wins consisted of 4 local Bassmaster series wins and one series classic championship. The first year after moving back to southern California, I earned the right to compete in the ABA tri-states championship on Lake Mead, fishing with Ken Huddleston, then of Castaic Soft Baits.

I stopped tournament bass fishing after that season and set my concentration on offshore fishing. I have fished all over the world from Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, and Panama. I have boated all species of tuna, wahoo, dorado, marlin, sailfish, yellowtail and snapper to name a few.

My four largest tuna weighed in at #320.7, #225, #211.4, and 204.

I had a fishing background but I knew that my knowledge of the sport only scratched the surface of what knowledge was out there. I was directed to a local fishing pro-shop in Vista, California owned by an incredible individual. Mr. Steve Reshke, also known as Capt'n PBod. This individual took me in the minute I walked through his door and helped me like I was his son. His tackle/fishing knowledge was so vast and his expertise on the water was so outstanding that he was a legend in my mind as well as many other customers and friends.

His pro-shop wasn't the everyday commercial fishing store with scripted employees, it was a hang out for fishermen to stop by and tell him their stories. Steve was genuinely excited for each and every one's tale.

Sadly, Capt'n PBod passed away in the fall of 2006.

We lost one of the neatest individuals I have had the opportunity to meet. Although, I only new him for a few years, I am deeply saddened by his passing. I know he meant something to a lot of people as over a thousand people attended his services.

A couple of months later, I approached his office manager to see if there was any interest in keeping the tradition of a Capt'n PBod type fishing pro-shop alive.

We worked together for several months and opened FishMore Tackle Center. Although the shop is not in the same location, it is within a few miles of the original storefront.

FishMore Tackle Center is mostly a saltwater pro-shop, but we do cater to the freshwater angler as well. We specialize in custom rigging of yachts and long range gear. We are associated with yachts that fish the Bisbee's and other saltwater tournaments as well as several of the long and short range fleet in the San Diego bay.

We began a retail website, fishmoretacklecenter.com, over the past few months to assist our customers that are not able to stop by the shop.

We urge you to stop by our shop at 501 Hacienda Drive, in Vista, California 92081 and say hi and take a look at what we have to offer. If you are not available to stop by, please, visit our website or call us at 760-941-9475.
